The Board makes recommendations to the County Executive on the acquisition of agricultural land preservation easements and reviews proposals concerning land subject to an agricultural land preservation easement.

As a matter of practice, the Board meets monthly at the Howard County Fairgrounds. The meetings of the Board are open to the public. The decision of the Board is determined by a majority vote (four votes) except a recommendation to acquire an easement requires five affirmative votes.

The Design Advisory Panel (DAP) reviews development, redevelopment and construction projects within the US Route 1 Corridor and age restricted adult housing that requires a conditional use permit.

Purpose: To improve design compatibility with surrounding development, to promote revitalization, and to enhance property values, the DAP process encourages excellence in the project’s architecture and site design.

Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 8930 Stanford Blvd., Columbia, MD. Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. at least 20 days prior to the scheduled meeting to be placed on the agenda. Please see the calendar above for a schedule of deadlines and meeting dates.

The Application deadline for HDC consideration has changed from 15 days to 22 days prior to the meeting date effective December 16, 2009. See the schedule above for meeting schedules and deadlines.

The Historic District Commission meets at 7:00 p.m. generally on the first Thursday of each month at 8930 Stanford Blvd., Columbia, MD. Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. 15 days prior to the monthly meeting to be placed on the agenda.

The Planning Board meets the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month. Additional meetings are added, if approved by the Board. Added meetings will be posted here on this site. For detailed meeting information, please refer to the Planning Board Agenda using the link above. Meetings begin at 7 pm unless otherwise posted and conclude at 10:30 pm. Additional inquiries may be made to the Recording Secretary (please see link above).
