SPRING Program Events

 The SPRING (Senior Peer Resources: Individuals, Networks & Groups) peer support program provides many opportunities for older adults in Howard County to both give and receive support. Programs and activities are designed to nurture interaction among older adult peers to foster a positive outlook, develop social networks, and support a thriving aging process.

  • Tuesdays, April 2 to April 30, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. – Coping with Hearing Loss, Presented by the University of Md. Speech & Hearing Department, North Laurel 50+ Center  (View Flier)

For individuals with hearing loss and/or their families, a variety of topics will be addressed, including hearing devices, managing your environment and coping strategies.  Sponsored by SPRING.  A terrific opportunity for hands-on interaction with qualified audiologist and UMD graduate students.  To register call 410-313-0380 or contact Elaine Widom, 410-313-7283 for further information. Cost: $25.00 (scholarships available)

Phyllis Madachy will discuss society’s myths of aging that serve to stigmatize, and how we individually must challenge our own personal beliefs.  Gain a new attitude and outlook that affirms aging as productive, enriching, expanding and rewarding across the lifespan. Small group discussions lead by SPRING facilitators follow keynote.  Light refreshments served.  Free; contact the Bain Center, 410-313-7213 to register or Karen Hull, 410-313-7466 for detailed information.  Registration deadline is Monday, April 1, 2013.
