May 16, 2013 --  Learn How To Protect Your Family, Friends and Neighbors From Identity Theft  

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman is urging residents to attend the County’s upcoming Identity Theft Forum to learn how they can prevent identity theft and the steps to take if their identity is stolen.  The Forum will take place on June 13, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the auditorium of Howard High School, 8700 Old Annapolis Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043. May 1, 2013 -- Howard County Celebrates Successes for Children 

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman and the Department of Citizen Services’ Office of Children’s Services honored individuals and programs that have made a difference in the lives of children at the 14th annual “Celebrating Successes for Children” ceremony, held April 30 at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville, Md.   The ceremony recognized the contributions and dedication of more than 120 honorees, including child care providers, speech therapists, local businesses, teachers, volunteers, students and coaches. April 30, 2013 -- Howard County Holds 6th Annual Career Exploration Day 

Howard County’s Department of Citizen Services, Office of Workforce Development, Public School System and the Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services will host the County’s sixth annual Career Exploration Day for high school students with disabilities on Wednesday, May 1st.  Thirty-three students will participate in this half-day job shadowing event and experience the diverse employment opportunities available in local government and private sector businesses. Read more...

The Howard County Department of Citizen Services’ Office on Aging will present the 5th annual WomenFest, a wellness event for women, on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gary J. Arthur Community Center, 2400 Route 97 in Cooksville.  This year, WomenFest will feature keynote speaker Andrea Pomerantz Lustig, contributing editor of Glamour Magazine, and author of How to Look Expensive.  Read more...

April 3, 2013 --  Howard County to Launch Cycle2Health Howard County  

Howard County will launch its newest bicycling initiative, Cycle2Health Howard County, on Thursday, May 2 beginning at 10 a.m. at the East Columbia 50+ Center, 6600 Cradlerock Way, Columbia, MD 21045. Cycle2Health’s inaugural ride will depart from the parking lot at 10:30 a.m., weather permitting. March 7, 2013 -- New Tools Now Available to Protect Against Child Identity Theft 

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman is reminding parents this week that they can take specific action to prevent identity theft by freezing their child’s credit report. As of January 1, 2013, the Maryland Child Identity Lock bill, passed by the Maryland General Assembly in 2012, allows parents to freeze the credit report of a minor prohibiting the credit agencies from releasing information to potential creditors, even if they do not already have a credit record. More...

The Howard County Commission on Disability Issues will hold its 18th Annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October 4, to honor the achievements of County residents with disabilities, their advocates, employers and service providers.  The ceremony will also feature a presentation, “With One Voice: Creating Real Change in Whole Community Emergency Planning,” on the importance of personal preparedness and the need for all residents to become active community participants in emergency planning. More...

 The CARE Center for Child and Adolescent Resources provides free assistance to Howard County parents to help find services and programs in the community for children and teens. October 13, 2011 -- Board to Promote Self-Sufficiency Announces Apprenticeship Program 

 Howard County Executive Ken Ulman announced today that Elkridge-based E-Structors, Inc., a leading company in the electronics recycling industry, is launching an “Electronic Asset Recovery Technician Apprenticeship Program” at their warehouse facility to support job seekers reentering the workforce.  The apprenticeship program grew out of the work of the County’s Board to Promote Self-Sufficiency, a group of stakeholders from the public and private sectors, who work together to promote the economic stability of individuals and families, and reduce the incidence of poverty in Howard County.
