Public Safety

Public safety is a top priority in Howard County. Residents and visitors must feel safe to live, work and play here. The nationally-accredited Howard County Police Department, Department of Fire and Rescue Services and Office of Emergency Management work together to ensure people are protected, well-treated and prepared, whenever possible, for an emergency. Whether it’s responding to a 911 call for a crime, putting out a fire, saving the life of someone in need or responding to a large-scale emergency event, Howard County is a leader in public safety.
Police: Crime prevention
Police crime prevention programs for groups including seniors and multi-cultural communities, general crime prevention tips, auto theft prevention tips and home security information
Park Rangers
The primary purpose of the program is to provide information, public assistance and education for park patrons on issues regarding natural resource protection. The secondary purpose of the program is to enforce Parkland Rules and Regulations and natural resources, animal control and parking regulations.
Fire and Rescue Services

Welcome to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS)! HCDFRS is a combination system in that services are provided through a partnership of volunteers and career personnel. There are four county stations (7, 9, 10, and 11) staffed by county employees and a handful of county volunteers, and seven volunteer stations (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8) owned by volunteer corporations staffed by county employees and supplemented by corporate volunteers.
