SENIOR SAFETY

Home Modifications Program

The Home Modification/Repair Program was established to promote safety and well-being for seniors in Howard County. The program enables a group of professional partners to provide consultation, along with home modification, repair, and retrofit services to qualified residents who want to remain in their own homes. Residents benefit from environmental modifications to suit their present or future requirements, such as handrails or grab bars, wheelchair ramps, lighting, alterations to bathrooms, improvements to existing doorways or other access areas, and some exterior work. Many services are offered free or at a reduced cost.

For more information about this program call the Office on Aging at (410) 313-5980, or email map@howardcountymd.gov. Please see the following links:

Direct services to those at risk may include consultation, in-home assessment and recommendations for a personalized fall prevention strategy, including environmental modifications, lifestyle improvements, and community resource referrals. Community education and training for older adults and professionals is provided through public presentations and community partnerships to increase fall prevention awareness.
