INFECTION CONTROL

Laboratories and Healthcare Providers are required by law to report certain diseases to the local health department.

Some diseases are recorded to become a part of the Local, State and National statistics. Some diseases require public health measures, or interventions. These diseases include:

  • Foodborne illnesses
  • Hepatitis
  • Lyme disease
  • Meningitis
  • Other Outbreaks

The Howard County Health Department may contact you for information that will assist in the investigation, and help to prevent others from getting sick.

WE NEED YOU!! Each year, up to 20% of the population may come down with the flu. CDC estimates that about 36,000 people nationwide may die from complications during a typical flu season. So it is important to get the best estimate of flu activity in order to slow or stop the spread of the disease. The State of Maryland needs to know flu activity in Maryland.
