When patrons see the Healthy Restaurant certification on a restaurant door in the county, they know it is a clean and safe environment that offers healthy menu items. Any restaurant - from fast food restaurants to fine dining - is eligible to apply for certification. The selection criteria include: excellent environmental inspections; compliance with smoke-free air laws; all offerings are trans-fat free; and at least two menu items meet standards for sodium, total calories including fat calories, and servings of lean protein and vegetables. Recipes undergo nutritional analysis at the Health Department and we work with owners and chefs to make ingredient changes when needed. Restaurants must re-certify each year to maintain their status.
