Crews Respond to Commercial Fire in Elkridge
Just after 11:20am on Friday, May 18, 2012, Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS) responded to the 6900 block of San Tomas Road in Elkridge, MD for reports of a fire at Advance Polybag Incorporated. Units arrived to find a three-story building with heavy dark smoke pouring from the 3rd floor. Initial reports indicate the roofing work was being done and some of the metal material caught fire before a worker called 911. It took roughly 50 firefighters approximately 20 minutes to extinguish the fire. Mutual aide assistance was provided by crews from Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and BWI. There are no injuries to report. Roughly 40 workers self-evacuated as a result of the fire, but they will be let back into the portions of the building that were not affected. Preliminary damage is estimated at $100,000.
