RECENT NEWS | Samantha Stoney | 410-313-4428 | The Application deadline for HDC consideration has changed from 15 days to 22 days prior to the meeting date effective December 16, 2009. See Meeting Information for meeting schedules and deadlines. There are new applications forms to be used when applying to the HDC. See Applications under Howard County Historic Districts to download the new forms. Proposed Changes to Historic District Commission Code Amendments to the Code clarify language regarding the review of development plans and change the application deadline to allow staff adequate time to review applications. The County Council public hearing on the proposed changes was September 22, 2009 and Council approved the changes on October 5, 2009.

They are also local historic districts, allowing the county to protect their architectural integrity and preserve their history for future generations.
Historic Sites Inventory | Ken Short | 410-313-4335 | | Inventory Listing | Inventory Map | MHT Inventory Search | Howard County maintains a Historic Sites Inventory of 945 architecturally and historically significant properties located throughout the county. Properties listed on the inventory are eligible for historic tax credits. Any property listed on the inventory that proposes a subdivision or site development plan must present the plan to Historic District Commission for advisory comments.
Historic Tax Credits | Samantha Stoney | 410-313-4428 | | County Tax Credit Application | Eligibility Information | State Tax Credits | Federal Tax Credits | Historic Tax Credits provide incentives for property owners to restore or preserve historic properties. Property owners must submit an application and obtain County approval before beginning work which qualifies for tax credits. For properties located in a historic district, property owners must also fill out a Certificate of Approval application when applying for tax credits.
