Water Main Breaks

Among our responsibilities that lead to a stable, quality water system for Howard County, the timely repair of water main breaks is a priority.

In 2009, 182 water main breaks occurred in Howard County. We sincerely appreciate your patience when such inconveniences arise.

If you notice water coming up out of a road, curb and gutter, or other area, please avoid the location as the water may have caused unsafe undermining of the surface. Call us at 410-313-4900 to report the situation and we will respond immediately.

On June 21, 2009 an Air Release Valve failed on a 24 inch transmission water main. Located just east of Saint John's Ln in Route 40's west bound lane, the water, rushing out of a two inch hole, reached heights of more than 50 feet. Eight valves had to be closed to enable the Bureau of Utilities to make the repair. Click the play button to see the video.
