Legislative Session for March 1, 2010

The Howard County Council will hold a legislative session beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010, to introduce new legislation for the month of March.

There are several pieces of legislation being introduced that may be of special interest to the public.

Council Bill 10-2010 enacts the Howard County Water Resources Element (WRE) as an amendment to the General Plan 2000. The WRE contains discussions of drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, streams, and other water-related matters. The WRE adds policies designed to protect existing resources and provide adequate water resource capacities to meet the County’s needs through 2030.

Council Bill No. 9-2010, introduced by the Chair at the request of the County Executive, is a request to amend General Plan 2000 to incorporate a portion of the historic Doughoregan property in the County’s Planned Service Area (PSA). The proposed expansion of the PSA is part of an approach for preserving Doughoregan Manor. The extension would allow up to 325 single-family detached residences.
